Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who I Work With

I treat adults ages 18–64 who are ready to invest in their well-being, are seeking a more fulfilling life, and are open to a holistic approach to mental health care. My practice supports individuals experiencing a range of conditions, including:

    • Anxiety

    • Depression and other mood disorders

    • Bipolar disorder

    • ADHD

    • PTSD and trauma-related symptoms

    • Schizophrenia

    • Eating disorders

    • Substance use and addiction

    • Sleep disorders

I have a particular passion for working with women across all stages of life. This includes support for:

    • Mood changes related to the menstrual cycle

    • Fertility struggles and the emotional toll of infertility

    • Pregnancy and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders

    • Perimenopause and menopause transitions

    • Sexual health and well-being at every life stage

I also provide deeply meaningful care for those facing end-of-life transitions. If you’ve been diagnosed with a terminal illness and are navigating emotional, psychological, or spiritual distress, I can support you through this complex time—helping you explore relationships, find meaning, and experience peace.

In addition, I work with caregivers and loved ones of those with terminal illness, as well as individuals experiencing profound grief that disrupts everyday life.

  • I see local patients in my Hendersonville, NC office and offer telehealth for all others.

I’m licensed to see patients in North Carolina, South Carolina, Maine, and Virginia.

  • The frequency of our sessions will be tailored to your individual needs, the nature of your symptoms, and your engagement in the therapeutic process. Initially, we may meet weekly or biweekly to establish momentum and build a strong therapeutic relationship. This approach aligns with research indicating that higher session frequency in the early stages of treatment is associated with faster improvement and recovery .

As you progress and gain confidence in applying the tools and strategies we discuss, we can adjust our meeting schedule accordingly. For some, transitioning to monthly sessions or check-ins every few months for maintenance may be appropriate. However, if at any point you feel the need for more frequent support, I am flexible and available to accommodate that.

Our goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that evolves with you, ensuring that you receive the support you need at every stage of your journey toward well-being.

  • We are all different, as are our paths to wellness. One treatment plan may work well for some but not others. The body is not a sum of its parts, but rather a complex, interactive system of body, mind, and spirit that works as an entire unit. We will work together in finding the unique path that suits you best. Together we will learn what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past, and explore other alternatives that will enable you to live your best life.

I focus on developing positive and trusting relationships with my patients. This allows for the deep and difficult work necessary to move through a challenging time. I take the time to see and hear people, getting to know them and addressing any concerns that come up to ensure they have a full understanding of the recommendations and plan.

*Please note, I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance plans. This allows me to offer thoughtful, unhurried care tailored to your needs rather than those of the insurance company’s. To support you in using your benefits, I can provide superbills for reimbursement and partner with Reimbursify to make claim submission simple.

  • Payment & Insurance Information

Stillpoint Psychiatry operates as a cash-based practice. This means I am out-of-network for all insurance providers, including Medicare and Medicaid.

If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a detailed receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many patients find they can recover a portion of their costs this way, depending on their specific plan.

    Why I Don’t Accept Insurance

Choosing not to contract with insurance companies allows me to offer the kind of care I believe in—personalized, unhurried, and holistic. Insurance plans often impose restrictions on the types of treatments covered, the frequency of sessions, and the duration of care. By operating independently, I can tailor your treatment plan based solely on your needs, without external limitations.

Additionally, this model enhances your privacy. Without involving insurance companies, your mental health records remain confidential between us, free from third-party access.

  • Is Out-of-Network Care Right for You?

If you're seeking more than brief, infrequent appointments focused solely on medication refills, an out-of-network psychiatrist like me may be the ideal fit. Here's what you can expect:

    • Personalized Attention: Extended sessions that allow us to delve deeply into your concerns, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of your needs.

    • Collaborative Approach: A treatment plan developed together, respecting your insights and preferences, and integrating various therapeutic modalities.

    • Holistic Care: Incorporation of evidence-based practices alongside complementary therapies, often unavailable in traditional settings.

    • Flexible Scheduling: Convenient and straightforward appointment setting, with open lines of communication between sessions.

    • Investment in Well-being: A commitment to your long-term health, focusing on sustainable strategies for growth and resilience.

Stillpoint Psychiatry allows for a more in-depth, tailored, and holistic approach to your mental health care.

  • Integrative psychiatrists use the best of what Western medicine offers alongside evidence-informed alternative therapies, such as supplements, plant medicine, mindfulness, diet and exercise practices. Alternative psychiatrists avoid use of Western medicine entirely.

  • Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health care that combines conventional treatments like medication and therapy with complementary practices like nutrition, lifestyle adjustments, and mind-body techniques. It focuses on addressing the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, aiming to improve overall well-being rather than just managing symptoms
